Historical Novel Society Conference

Historical Novel Society Conference in San Antonio TX

Tomorrrow I head to San Antonio for the Historical Novel Society’s Conference.

I’ve never attended the event before and am looking forward to making new connections, meeting other writers, and learning from the many panels and presentations.

The virtual portion of the conference began yesterday with several special events, including a session with the novelist Sarah Penner on social strategies for authors. She repeated a session she’d given from a previous conference, but with additional materials on the pros and cons of different social media sites, providing data on the demographics of users of different sites, as well as strategies for maximizing engagement with prospective readers and other writers.

I’ve spent the last few months trying to learn more about Twitter, Instagram, etc. It’s been a steep learning curve, but has led to making the acquaintance of several writers whose fiction I admire, including Nikki Marmery, Laura Shepperson, Jane Fraser, Em Strang, Victoria MacKenzie (all in the UK) and Laura Spence-Ash (US).

I’m now three months from publication day—Cities of Women will be released on Sept 5, 2023 inn the US, and 19 October, 2023 in the UK. I’ve been working with the wonderful team at Pine State Publicity on getting the word out about the book’s release.

But please don’t wait for Septmber. Pre-order now at Bookshop.org and support indie bookstores!
